Psychiatric report ordered by Kildare judge for man accused of attacking his mother with a knife

Naas District Court.

A psychiatric report was ordered for a man with suspected mental health issues by a Naas District Court judge on Thursday, October 26 last.

Judge Desmond Zaidan made the decision in a case involving a man who is currently remanded in custody, and appeared via video-link.

Gardaí told the court that the man allegedly attacked his mother with a knife in Kildare, causing injuries to her neck and hands. She was later hospitalised for her alleged injuries.

After being told that directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were not ready for the case, Judge Zaidan adjourned the case to a date in November to allow for DPP directions.

He also ordered that the man undergo a psychiatric assessment before the next court date, to be accompanied by a psychiatric report.

"It's not a request, it's an order," the judge remarked.
