Councillor voices frustration over flooding on North Kildare road

Fine Gael Cllr Brendan Wyse.

A county councillor expressed his frustration over a road located in North Kildare.

Fine Gael Cllr Brendan Wyse made his views known at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which was held on Friday, October 6.

He motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to prepare a cross-department strategy to alleviate flooding on the L7073 road between the entrances of Hawthorn Manor and Woodlands Park estates in Coill Dubh.

The motion was seconded by his party colleague Cllr Tim Durkan.

Cllr Wyse told KCC: "It’s annoying to see this issue continue."

When KCC said that it’s Development Control Section 'would liaise with the developer to ensure the road gullies are connected into the water system at Hawthorn Manor and function appropriately’, Cllr Wyse replied: "This seems to suggest that the developer is to blame, but I disagree with that; KCC should be more proactive."

Cyril Buggie, an engineer with KCC, said that the developer, as part of planning permission being granted, gave an undertaking to check up on the pipes.

He also said that the flooding could be alleviated via a vacuum machine, but added that this costs €1,000 a day to operate. Still, he told Cllr Durkan that he would contact the developer over the matter.
