Possible miscommunication over foul water maintanence in Kildare estate

There may have been a possible miscommunication between Uisce Éireann and Kildare County Council (KCC), a meeting heard.

The possibility was brought up by Social Democrats councillor Aidan Farrelly at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, October 6 last.

Cllr Farrelly motioned for KCC to work with Uisce Eireann to remedy a mains issue in Dunfirth Park, Johnstownbridge.

His motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr Brendan Wyse.

Social Democrats Cllr Aidan Farrelly.

After KCC recommended that Cllr Farrelly should contact Uisce Éireann directly with regards to this motion, Cllr Farrelly said: "There seems to be some structural problems here for a while concerning foul water.

"The estate was taken in charge, but there seems to be some confusion over who is responsible (for remedying the water mains)."

Fine Gael Tim Durkan replied that Uisce Éireann is responsible for managing it.

In response, Cllr Farrelly said: "Uisce Éireann said it was KCC (to the residents)... there might just be a breakdown in communication here."

Marian Higgins, Director of Services - Climate, Community, Environment & Water, was present at the meeting, and told Cllr Farrelly that she would follow up on the matter.
