WEATHER ALERT: Heavy rain to hit parts of Ireland through Thursday and Friday

Met Eireann is warning that heavy rain is to hit parts of Ireland through Thursday evening and throughout the day on Friday.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain Warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow and all of Munster.

The warning comes into effect at 6pm on Thursday and remains in effect until 6pm on Friday.

Met Eireann is warning that from Thursday evening to Friday evening, persistent and sometimes heavy rain may lead to localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.

The Met Eireann weather forecast for Ireland says that Thursday morning will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells but cloudy in the south with rain or drizzle near the south coast. In the afternoon, persistent rain will develop in the south and spread northwards through the evening, heavy at times, especially in Munster and Leinster with spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with light northeast breezes.

Met Eireann says that heavy persistent rain is currently expected to move up from the south, bringing possible flooding; extensive low cloud and mist. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees, in light northerly breezes.

According to Met Eireann, there is uncertainty in the forecast for Friday but currently very heavy overnight rain will be slow to clear eastwards, possibly even lingering for much of the day, before eventually easing through the night. Cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15, in light to moderate northerly winds.
