A Thunderstorm Warnings for Kildare is in place until midnight on Sunday.

The Status Yellow Thunderstorm Warning also applies to Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

Forecasters warned that localised thunderstorms will be slow-moving and will bring heavy downpours giving frequent lightning and surface water-flooding.

Meanwhile, following heatwave conditions in recent days, Met Eireann said that Monday will see an end to the high temperatures as the heat wave ends with a bang.

Monday will be a cloudy day with outbreaks of rain spreading southeastwards across the country.

The rain will clear from the west and northwest by late evening, with fresher conditions and scattered showers following. Noticeably cooler with highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees in light northwesterly winds.

Temperatures look set to be in the mid teens for the early part of next week.
