The ESB wants to run 8.5km of electricity cable between Kildare town and Newbridge.
A planning application has been submitted to Kildare County Council by ESB Engineering and Major Projects Planning Team Leader for the development which will consist of a new 38 kilovolt electricity circuit between the existing Kildare ESB substation and the existing Newbridge ESB substation.
The circuit will be 8.5km in length and will consist of 7km of overhead line and 1.5km of underground cable.
The 48 overhead structures will consist of single and double wood polesets, with a height above ground level ranging from 9.7m to 8m and will require below ground foundations in some cases.
The underground cables will primarily run along public roads and will consist of electrical cables laid in underground ducts buried in a trench with varying dimensions between 0.6m and 0.9m width and a depth of 1.2m.
Permission is sought for all associated works including temporary works such as the creation of access ways.
