KILDARE: 241 patients had no bed on admission to hospital last month

A total of 241 patients had no bed after being admitted to Naas Hospital through the accident and emergency department last month.

The figure for June is the highest for that month since 2019 when 286 patients were withoput a bed initially.

However the highest ever figure for June (395) was recorded in 2011.

The figure for Portlaoise Hospital was 60, as compared with 110 for the previous year.

There was no figure available from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation forTullamore Hospital.

Unsurprisingly, the worst overcrowding figure emerged from University Hospital Limerick (1,689) and this was followed by Sligo University Hospital (822), Cork University Hospital  (695),  University Hospital Galway (637) and St. James’s Hospital (599).

Across the country  some 8,312 patients, including 164 children, were admitted to hospital without a bed in June.
