KILDARE: Car park confusion means people are getting clamped

A lack of clarity over  who is running car parks is leading to motorists getting clamped.

Newbridge councillor Peggy O’Dwyer said motorists parking in the Cutlery Road area of the town have been penalised because of the different rules which apply to different car parks.

She said the car parks managed on behalf of Kildare County Council should be clearly marked.

“People think they are in a Kildare County Council car park, but they’re not,” she told a Kildare County Council meeting.

KCC official Celina Barrett said that all car parks come with clear signs but  if clarity is needed in any area it will be provided.

A list of car parks operated by Apcoa on behalf of the council was provided to members.

These are in Athy (eight - Catherine McCauley, Church Road, Meeting Lane, Emily Square, Back Square, Edmund Rice Square, Barrow View, Augustus Bridge); Kildare town and Newbridge (one each - Top Nolan’s and the GAA venue); Naas (five - New Row, Fairgreen, Abbey Street, Hederman’s and Friary Road car park, where lease expires July 2023);

Celbridge and Leixlip (one each - Clane Road and Arthur Guinness Square); Maynooth (one - Straffan Road) and Kilcock ( Fairgreen, The Square, Kildare County Council car park Harbour Street, where lease expires September 2023).

Ms Barrett said these are clearly marked with information including the enforcement times and parking charges applicable there.
