Kildare County Council (KCC) has provided an update on cemetery works within the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District (MD).

At the latest MD meeting, which was held on Wednesday, July 19 last at the MERITS building in Naas, Sinn Féin Cllr Noel Connolly motioned for KCC to provide the update.

In its report at the meeting, KCC detailed the works in cemeteries within the MD this year so far: "The New Columbarium Wall is currently planned for Newbridge (Others are also planned in Athy and Leixlip).

"Plans for a wall in Monasterevin will be subject to available funding.

"There are plans for footpath maintenance works to be carried out in Monasterevin over the summer."

KCC added: "There are also ongoing discussions relating to an extension to the existing cemetery in Monasterevin."

KCC also said that: the Columbarium Wall has been completed in Rathangan; resurfacing works have taken place at the St Conleth's carpark in Newbridge; there plans to remove trees at Kildare Town Cemetery, (subject to funding approval); and the removal of hazardous trees is also planned for Barretstown Cemetery,”

"Works on Allen Cemetery extension are also due to commence shortly," KCC further said.
