KILDARE: Children at risk because of street junction

Basin Street in Naas needs work, says local disability access group

Basin Street, Naas

The safety of children using a junction in Naas is at risk.

Local councillor Bill Clear again asked if Kildare County Council has plans to “improve the safety of the Abbey Street and Basin Street junction for pedestrians, particularly children going to school.

“Kids are being squeezed against the wall,” he said, referring to the narrow width at the Junction.

However a response from KCC engineer Donal Hodghins indicate that the council is investigating the closure of the  Abbey Street/Basin Street junction “in the context of active travel improvements in the area.”

He added that when plans are developed then a proposal will be brought forward for public consultation.
