A man was found with €40,000 in his car, it was alleged before Naas District Court.

Anthony Byrne, 62, whose address was given as Gorrough, Clonaslee, County Laois, is charged with allegedly engaging in the possession of the proceeds of criminal conduct on March 2, 2022, at Ladytown, between Naas and Newbridge.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan said it will be alleged the defendant was stopped in a vehicle and there was €40,000 in a sealed compartment.

The man was sent forward for trial at Naas Circuit Court by Judge Desmond Zaidan.

The judge also granted free legal aid and noted that a book of evidence has been served on the defendant.

He also said that if an alibi forms any part of his defence he must notify the prosecuting authorities in advance.
