The Caragh Tidy Towns group recently won the 2022 Endeavour Award in Trim.

Set up in October 2015, Caragh Tidy Towns has since built itself up in the small Kildare village.

The culmination of their efforts was the 2022 Endeavour Award, which their volunteers were presented with at a ceremony held yesterday evening in Trim.

An active committee with a band of loyal volunteers, with backing from Kildare County Council, has given the team a firm footing to roll out a number of projects over the last few years.

Chair, John Lawler told the Leader: "Ironically it was probably during Covid that the group consolidated into the hardworking crew that they are today.

"Not being able travel outside the 5k (zone) and only driving local roads brought about a mindset change in the heads of our volunteers."

He continued: "We became more introspective on what Caragh had, or could have, and what potential was there.

"People were out walking so rather than just walk, they got a litter picker from me and a few bags and started picking from roadsides."

John also said that the Tidy Towns competition 'pushes you each year to develop new projects in line with their ethos of promoting Sustainability and Biodiversity.'

However, he stressed: "You also have to keep an eye maintaining the old projects, as itt can get busy!"

"Caragh are entering the 2023 Tidy Towns with a renewed sense of pride in their village... they hope that they can continue climbing up the points league to join the seasoned campaigners at some point in the future," John concluded.
