LATEST: Retained firefighters Kildare rep says mandate for limited industrial action continues

A representative for the retained firefighters based in County Kildare has said that a mandate for limited industrial action continues.

Last week, the Leinster Leader reported that three different fire stations in Kildare were closed on a rotating basis, as a result of strike action planned by Services Industrial Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU) retained firefighters.

This resulted in nearly 50 per cent of fire stations in the service closing, but the firefighters decided to suspend their strike action to allow for exploratory discussions at the Labour Court on Monday last.

Now, a representative has given the Leader the following statement: "The (Labour) Court has said that it will take a few days to consider what the parties have said, with a view to issue a recommendation that has the best possibility for resolving the current dispute.

"A further update will follow when the recommendation is issued."

They added: "The mandate to continue the limited industrial (action) continues while we await the recommendation."
