A man who stole a skin care hamper from a local pharmacy was convicted at Naas District Court.

Richard Hawkins, 33, whose address was given as no fixed abode, Maynooth, was prosecuted for stealing the hamper, valued at €115 from McCartan’s pharmacy in Maynooth on January 3, 2022.

It was further claimed that he stole two vacuum cleaners from the Lidl Store, Straffan Road, Maynooth, just over two months later.

Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court the defendant had nine previous convictions for theft.

Defending solicitor David Powderly said the defendant was serving a spell in custody and he has a problem with alcohol.

He said the defendant had been sleeping rough and he stole for accommodation, food and drink.
