KILDARE: Apartments plan for historic derelict Naas house

Market House, Naas

Plans are being made to provide apartments at a derelict Naas dwelling house, close to the Grand Canal.

It’s being proposed to construct nine age friendly apartments at Market House, adjacent to the community library.

A planning application has been made by the owner Pat Keane, who is also associated with the Hanged Man/s pub and restaurant at Milltown, Newbridge.

He wants to renovate and extend the dwelling, which is a protected structure, into three apartments with tow bedrooms and another six with a single bedroom in each.

This will mean removing all the derelict structures at the back, back boundary walls as well as non original internal partitions and the stairs and chimney. It’s also planned to reinstate the original ground floor arched openings and two and three storey extensions to the side and back.

Newbridge-based planning consultant Derek Whyte said earlier this year he was working on the proposal.

Mr White has worked on projects in various towns across the country for Age Friendly Ireland for the past year and these include Dungloe, Kilrush, Shannon, Mountrath, Athy, Kilkee, Mitchelstown, Carlow, Swords and Balbriggan.
