Children as young as six months were found among pornography images on a computer, it was claimed at Naas District Court.
A Kildare man has appeared before the court in connection with allegedly possessing child pornography images on a date in July 2018 and a date in October last.
The court heard it will be alleged that some 2529 images were found in addition to 24 videos.
The court heard that the images were “very graphic” and the children ranged in age from six months to early teens.
The court heard that the existence of the images came to light as a result of the activity of an international monitoring body outside Ireland.
The case was adjourned to June 7 next.
The court was told that there was no objection to bail provided that the defendant sign on once weekly at a named County Kildare garda station and provide a mobile phone number to gardaí.
The defendant must remain contactable by gardaí.
He is obliged to surrender his passport and not to apply for travel documents.
