Paul Phelan is presented with this award outside his home
The second winner of a National Ambulance Service (NAS) Community Volunteer Award during National Volunteer Week is Paul Phelan of Newbridge Community First Responders.
Paul has been an active member of the Newbridge Community First Responders since May 2017 and is now the Vice Chairperson of the scheme and has recently qualified as a CFR instructor.
A statement by the NAS said: "Paul's call attendance rate is phenomenal as is his effectiveness, having participated in no fewer than four Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) events.
"He is at every training session, meeting, fundraiser and community engagement event.
"He is encouraging to new members and a fantastic advocate for the role of CFRs.
"He shows great leadership when out on a call and in training. He is also a very supportive member of the team, especially when they have dealt with a tough call out. He makes a patient, and their families feel so at ease at sometimes a stressful time. He is a team player and a dedicated volunteer."
Speaking of the award, Amanda Ross, Community Engagement Officer said that “Paul’s commitment to the community of Newbridge is phenomenal, through his hard work and that of the Newbridge CFRs, they have created a wonderful community focused organisation. We are delighted Paul has been recognised for this achievement.”
