Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy asked KCC to update the committee on plans to stabilise the walls of the ruined Friary in Clane.
Planned works will take place at the ruined Friary in Clane, Kildare County Council (KCC) has said.
The information was relayed to councillors present at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting on Friday, May 5.
Independent Cllr Pádraig McEvoy asked KCC to update the committee on plans to stabilise the walls of the ruined Friary.
KCC told those in attendance: "Kildare County Council received 60k from the Community Monuments Fund in 2023 for works to Clane Friary.
"It is proposed to work on the north wall in 2023."
DETAILS
The council continued: "For completeness, the full extent of the proposed works with respect to the north wall include the following; clearing ivy and vegetation, repointing eroded joints, point and pin foundation stones, consolidate reveals of window, rebuild missing face work as core masonry, pin unsupported masonry, consolidate wall end, lift and reset wall top and consolidate reinstated facework.
"Conservation Engineers have now been appointed to a) prepare a method statement for repair, b) prepare the necessary tender documentation and c) secure necessary consents from the National Monuments Service."
KCC concluded: "The Municipal District will be informed when a contactor has been appointed and a start date for the above work has been set."
