The seizure took place yesterday.
As part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized illicit drugs with an estimated value of over €400,000 in County Kildare yesterday.
A spokesperson for the Revenue’s Customs Service said: "The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service (RCS), the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and the Kildare Divisional Drugs Unit.
"During the course of the operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 17 kilograms of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €340,000."
They continued: "In a follow up search at an Industrial premises in Athy, a further 3kgs of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €60,000, and 272 packets of edible jellies, with an estimated value of €13,600, were seized.
"A man in his 40s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
"The man has since been charged and is due to appear before a sitting of the Dublin District Court at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Court 1, at 10:30am this morning.
"Investigations are ongoing."
The spokesperson added: "This operation was part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.
