File Photo: The offences were carried out at the Kildare Village Retail Outlet.
Gardaí present in Naas District Court on Thursday, April 13, told sitting Judge Deirdre Gearty that a defendant was due to leave the country.
The comments were made in relation to Semih Aydogdu, with an address listed as Apartment 8, 39 (A), Archway Court, Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1 in County Dublin.
The 28-year-old was convicted of shoplifting a number of items from stores located in Kildare Village on April 12 last.
He pleaded guilty to the offences, and it was heard that all of the stolen items were recovered.
DETAILS
It was heard that Mr Aydogdu stole: a jacket worth €249, unspecified clothes worth €275, a jacket and jumper from one shop worth a combined total of €253, two pairs of tracksuit bottoms worth €79.67, and white runners worth €114.
After reading out these details, gardaí told Judge Gearty that Mr Aydogdu was due to leave Ireland on the same date he was due in court.
Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly said that his client had 'a moment of madness' when he committed the offence, and added that he has no previous convictions.
In response, Judge Gearty directed Mr Aydogdu to pay €500, which was to be donated to the Naas Men's Shed, and when he paid this sum, she applied the Probation Act.
