A man who kicked in a door at a school premises was identified through his DNA after blood was found at the scene.
Before Naas District Court was Oliver Fleming, 47, whose address was given as 3 Lee Drive, Tralee, was prosecuted for burglary.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan outlined that the incident took place on April 26, 2019 at around 4 am at the Educate Together school in Burgage, Blessington.
He said a door to a boiler room was kicked in and DNA was secured from blood at the scene.
He said the defendant had nine previous convictions and the last was in 2010 and these were mainly for road traffic offences.
Defending barrister Mark Gibbons said the defendant’s previous convictions are “of some antiquity.”
Mr Gibbons added the defendant is remorseful and regrets the incident.
He added he was very drunk and was unable to get a taxi and had intended to stay in the boiler room.
The court heard that the damage to the door was quite minor.
Judge John O’Leary adjourned the matter to September 6.
He said this is to allow for a contribution of €1,000 to be made to the school. He said if this is done he will impose a fine of €300.
