Kildare town resident accused of being in possession of suspected cocaine and €9,200 worth of suspected cannabis

ALLEGATIONS

Gardaí have accused a man of being in possession of cocaine and cannabis after he was searched.

The allegations relate to one Colin Murphy, with an address listed as 7 Abbess Court, Firecastle Lane in Kildare town, who appeared at Naas District Court on Thursday, March 23.

Judge Desmond Zaidan was told that the 31-year-old was allegedly found with around €980 worth of suspected cocaine following a search by gardaí on him at Rathbride Road, Kildare town on July 4 last.

It was later alleged that during a follow-up search, Mr Murphy was later found with around €9,200 worth of suspected cannabis herb.

The case will return to court on July 27, which is when a book of evidence is due to be presented.

Judge Zaidan remanded the accused on continuing bail until this date.

Mr Murphy was also convicted on the day for a speeding incident in which he drove at 140 kilometres in a 60 km zone in County Kildare.

Defending barrister Donncha Craddock said to Judge Zaidan that his client co-operated with gardaí and accepts that he committed the offence.

He also pointed out that Mr Murphy has no previous convictions.

Judge Zaidan ultimately decided to impose a €500 fine on Mr Murphy, in addition to imposing a two-year driving ban on him.
