Kildare athlete blazing a trail in the sport of CrossFit

Kildare athlete Holly Tynan competes in the sport of CrossFit - a sport combining Olympic weightlifting, endurance, and gymnastics.

Last weekend Celbridge competitor Holly qualified for the CrossFit Games semi-finals in the Elite European division.

Holly representing Ireland, recently competed in a team event in TYR Wodapalooza the world’s premier Functional Fitness Festival, Miami where she won the RX Division along with Martha Rochford from Wexford and Kelin Coleman from Cork.

After a recent move to Scotland to train full time with her long-time coach Rob Lawson, Crossfit Aberdeen, Holly competed in the quarterfinal event this weekend and achieved her goal to reach the Crossfit games semi-finals in Berlin in June.

Where the top 60 athletes will fight it out to get a top 10 place and compete in the 2023 CrossFit Games in Madison, US.

The CrossFit Games is all about crowning the Fittest on Earth.

Those who are not familiar with CrossFit will be amazed at the sheer power and strength of these athletes from around the world. 

CrossFit is comprised of a huge variety of athletic and physical challenges, so athletes need to master many functions. Holly, who comes from a sporting background found Crossfit at the age of 16, now at 22 she is considered one of Europe’s up and coming athletes in the sport.

Having had some local success from an Irish context over the past two years, Holly has now stepped up to compete at the ultimate International level.
