Naas Courthouse
Gardaí discovered that a man had cocaine in Naas Courthouse.
The man was prosecuted at a Naas District Court sitting.
John Coyne, 29, whose address was given as 23 Grove Heights, Robertstown, was prosecuted for possession of cocaine and diazepam, a prescription drug, on dates in January this year.
Detective Garda Wayne Kelly told of going to the defendant’s house on January 7.
He said there was a quantity of cocaine on the table with a value of €80.
The court also heard that the defendant's parents said the drug belonged to the defendant.
The court heard that at Naas Courthouse the defendant took out a small tin which had the drug in it and he was found with 11 tablets.
Detective Garda Darren Moulton said the cocaine had a street value of €145 and the tablets had a value of €11.
Defending solicitor Tim Kennelly said the defendant has been in custody and things have gotten better for him there.
He said the defendant has developed and he wants to change.
He said he is currently serving a 10 months term, which was backdated for a month.
Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that he had serious concerns for the defendant during a previous court appearance.
“I could tell by his behaviour and demeanour that he was out of it,” said the judge.
He was told the defendant had 21 previous convictions.
An eleven months term was imposed for possessing cocaine on January 25.
The two other counts were taken into consideration.
