A woman who appeared at Naas District Court in a theft case had 67 previous convictions.
Marie Stokes, 36, whose address was given as 49 Leer Avenue, Abbeylands, Castledermot, was prosecuted for theft on June 11, 2018.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the defendant took three cans of coke. The incident happened at the Daybreak store in Nurney.
He said her convictions included one for theft in 2020 when a three months suspended sentence was imposed.
The woman told the court she was married at 15 years of age and her first conviction was also at 15.
Solicitor Tim Kennelly told the court the shop had been reimbursed.
Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that the theft of three bottles of coke appears trivial but the shopkeeper might have a different view and he also noted her previous convictions.
When the defendant told the court “my young fella is very sick and he keeps me going”, Judge Zaidan replied: “Don’t use him as an excuse for theft.
The judge added: “If you care about your son you will not be behaving in this way.”
He applied the Probation Act.
