The Potato Market site, Naas
Stallholders at Naas' newest market are availing of a discount.
The newly opened Potato Market is a new casual market located adjacent to the presbyterian church and is open on Saturday mornings.
Naas councillor Seamie Moore asked that stall holders who sign up before June 1 get a 50% discount.
However he was told at a Naas Municipal District meeting that they have been offered and are availing of a 25% discount for the first 6 months, commencing last November. According to KCC official Pamela Pender the price per stallholder is pitched competitively, making it attractive to stallholders while the market gets established.
She added the promotion of the market by increasing the discount is not necessary, “as the market is currently at capacity.”
She also said the council has incurred significant costs on the initial phase. The next phase of development will see an update to the electricity on site along with toilet upgrades, sinks, signage, access points to St. David’s Church and new gates.
However there are no plans to provide awnings around the perimeter of the market as protection against inclement weather - because this would require “archaeological and conservation oversight.
