Naas
Roads in the greater Naas area are to be upgraded.
Some €30,000 is to be spent restoring the R410 route between Beggars End (the five crossroads junction), near Punchestown Racecourse and Eadestown.
This is part of a €626 million national investment programme that will repair, maintain and strengthen existing regional and rural roads across the country.
The R407 Sallins bypass and Osberstown interchange will receive €230,000 euro.
Cllr Colm Kenny said the funding is a massive support for keeping these roads in good condition and safe for all to use.
“Not only will this funding maintain our roads, but it will also improve their safety and prepare our road infrastructure to adapt to rising challenges from climate change. This funding will have a positive effect for all road users, including those travelling by public transport, car, cyclists and pedestrians alike.”
The money will be spent on strengthening road pavements, preventative maintenance work and drainage improvements. It will also cover safety improvements and the rehabilitation of bridges. Nationally, €16 million will be provided for 329 climate change projects to prepare for the impact of global warming on our road system.
The overall sum will fund the maintenance of approximately 3,100 kms of regional and local roads and the strengthening of a further 2,550 kms.
Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said: “This is long term planning in action, we are maintaining our roads today so that they don’t need expensive repair in the future.”
