Lack of progress in feasibility study on Newbridge criticised by Kildare councillor

A lack of progress in relation to the Draft Feasibility Study (DFS) for the Cultural/Civic Quarter in Newbridge has been lambasted.

Fine Gael Councillor Peggy O’ Dwyer asked Kildare County Council (KCC) at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, February 15, to 'confirm when the public consultation is due to commence on the Cultural/Civic Quarter in Newbridge.'

In response, KCC said that the DFS has yet to be finalised.

The council added: "It would therefore be premature to define a public consultation period."

However, Cllr O' Dwyer was unhappy with this response, and said that the lack of news was 'hugely, hugely disappointing.'

"I am exasperated," she added.

The Fine Gael politician pointed out that the DFS was first announced in 2021, and that before that, the project was first mentioned back in 2018.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Suzanne Doyle also said: "Maybe we were too ambitious for our aspirations over what was deliverable."
