Kildare County Council made the comments in response to a motion put forward by Green Party councillor Peter Hamilton (PICTURED).
Councillors were told at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District (MD) meeting that temporary/pilot active travel upgrades in Maynooth are 'not reasonably deliverable'.
The comments were in response to a motion put forward by Green Party Cllr Peter Hamilton on Friday, February 3 last.
The motion read as follows: "That the council investigate and propose low cost and temporary/pilot active travel upgrades in Maynooth, particularly making use of existing infrastructure in the Newtown Road, Old Greenfield and Dublin Road area, to address problem areas not covered by 2023 plans."
In response to his motion, Kildare County Council (KCC) said: "The Sustainable Transport Section is concentrating on the implementation of the agreed 2023 NTA Programme of Active Travel Schemes in Kildare.
"The schemes being designed in this MD area include the Meadowbrook Active Travel Scheme and the Maynooth North-South Corridor Project (Mill Street) which are close to being ready for construction."
KCC added: “The potential for low- cost options for these two schemes have been considered; however, these are not realistically deliverable.”
