A man became aggressive with a taxi driver and didn’t pay the fare, Naas District Court was told.
Before the court was Sean Flynn, 30, whose address was given as Killybegs, Clane.
He was prosecuted for making off without paying the driver and a breach of the Public Order Act on December 19, 2021 at Millicent Cross, Clane.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan said the defendant was intoxicated at the time and the fare was €33.
He also said there was no violence associated with the incident.
Solicitor Tim Kennelly said the defendant works in London in renewable infrastructure.
He said the defendant “had quite a bit to drink” on the occasion. He was accompanied by his brother and there was a dispute over who would pay the fare.
He added that the defendant is sincerely remorseful, had contacted the taxi driver and had brought €1,000 with him to court as a donation.
The court was also told that the defendant has stopped drinking.
Judge Desmond Zaidan applied the Probation Act which means there is no conviction.
The judge directed that €50 go to the taxi driver and the remainder will go to two charitable causes.
