Iconic sites to be lit up across Kildare to honour St Brigid

Kildare landmark to be illuminated by campaigners to  honour St Brigid and other causes

Kildare County Council’s Brigid 1500 programme will come to life in coming days across the county with dozens of events celebrating the life and legacy of St Brigid until February 7.

Over 50 celebratory spectacles and poignant moments will honour St Brigid.

Events including spectacular light shows, extraordinary concerts and performances, literary events, and more promise to live long in the memory of audiences for years to come.

The programme for Brigid 1500 will take place across the county of Kildare and the full calendar of events can be viewed at www.brigid1500.ie.


- On January 31, iconic sites and buildings across Kildare will be lit up with an array of stunning light illustrations depicting St Brigid and her legacy.
- Locations include: Potato Market, Naas, 5.30pm – 10pm (with fire dancers between 7.30pm and 8.30pm)
- The Wonderful Barn, Leixlip, 5.30pm – 6.30pm
- Maynooth Castle, 7.30pm – 8.30pm
- Athy Library, 10pm – 11.30pm.
- February 1: Potato Market, Naas, 5.30pm – 9pm.

- A feast of lanterns, procession, and fire performance to kindle Brigid’s flame, light up the town and mark the changing seasons performed by LUXE at Main Square, Kildare Town on Saturday, February 4 at 6pm.

- Hot Press and Kildare County Council Present ‘Nothing Compares: A Celebration of Irish Women Artists’ featuring music and literature by Irish women including Imelda May, Eleanor McEvoy, Tolu Makey, Susan O’Neill, Mary Stokes, Megan O’Neill and Gemma Dunleavy at various locations on February 1.

- A Concert for Brigid 1500 featuring renowned Irish Soprano Eimear Quinn at St Brigid’s Cathedral, Kildare Town on Sunday February 5 at 7pm.
