Convicted sex offender Sean Thackaberry was brought into Naas District Court by gardaí on Thursday, January 19.
The 30-year-old, with an address given as 3582 Church View Estate in Suncroft, The Curragh, was brought in for execution of a bench warrant.
BACKGROUND
Sean Thackaberry was jailed for seven and a half years back in late 2013 for a sex offence, with the final two and a half years suspended, and was later released in June 2017.
Thackaberry was initially charged with rape, but later entered a guilty plea at the Central Criminal Court to aggravated sexual assault, which was accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (also known as the DPP).
The offence happened in Kildare town in the early hours of January 30, 2011.
The injured party in the case later died by suicide.
On the latest court date, the convicted sex offender was accused of stealing clothes from Dealz on Duke Street in Athy on March 6 last.
DECISION
Mr Thackaberry’s defending barrister told Judge Desmond Zaidan that they sought for the bench warrant against their client to be cancelled, as he was in custody when it was issued.
Judge Zaidan agreed to cancel the warrant.
The case will return to court on a date in May for election.
