Kildare artist features on new RTÉ One documentary Finding Brigid

Kildare Artist and Calligrapher Josephine Hardiman will feature on new RTÉ One documentary Finding Brigid.

Josephine came to the attention of RTÉ producer and director Ashling Fallon Casey in 2022 while she was researching the upcoming documentary Finding Brigid; and came across her Instagram account.

Josephine and her beautiful body of artwork in Celtic Calligraphy and Illumination, The Book of Kildare feature in the documentary as several of the book's pages are dedicated to Brigid. The almost finished book explores the Ancient Mythology of Ireland, the traditions and story of Brigid, as Goddess, Woman and Saint, the wonderful rich Kildare Heritage, History, Archaeology and Landscape.

The documentary is hosted by Siobhán McSweeny (Derry Girls, Holding and The Great Pottery Throw Down) and visits key sites across Ireland and the UK relevant to Brigid. Finding Brigid features former President Mary McAleese, sisters Mary Kennedy and Deirdre Ní Chinnéide, Herstory activist Melanie Lynch and Laura Murphy who made it their mission to make St. Brigids Day a national holiday, Kildare Artist and Calligrapher Josephine Hardiman and Brigidine Sister Rita Minahan.

Throughout Féile Bríde and for the entire month of February 2023, the Brigid pages from The Book of Kildare will be exhibited at Solas Bhríde and the new, Illuminated pages will be on display at Kildare Town Library. Josephine will be working on new pages of calligraphy in situ at Kildare Town Library, giving talks on the projects as well of demonstrations of her work during
the month.

Finding Brigid airs on RTÉ One on Tuesday 31st January 2023 at 10.15pm and will be available on the RTÉ Player Josephine's February 2023 exhibitions at Solas Bhríde and Kildare Town Library are supported by Creative Ireland and Kildare County Council Art Services.
