Kildare animal shelter open for rehoming again

Kildare animal shelter open for rehoming again

Speed

Christmas and New Year are not good times to rehome rescue dogs and cats and so most of the KWWSPCA animals in need of homes spent a nice time in foster homes during the holiday period.

Now, however, most of these rescue animals are back in our shelter and the KWWSPCA has started looking for new homes for them.

If you are interested in adopting a rescue dog or cat, first go to the KWWSPCA website, www.kwwspca.ie. This is where most of the animals looking for new homes will be posted with information about them, photos of them and how to start the adoption process.

The KWWSPCA Animal Shelter, which is located near the village of Athgarvan, is closed to visitors without a prior appointment.

In the case of a dog, an expression of interest form must be completed before an appointment can be made. These forms can be downloaded from the website, www.kwwspca.ie or call 087 6887136 for a form to be sent to you.

For cats, an appointment can be made by texting/calling 089 4588162. There is an adoption fee when a dog or a cat is adopted; €200 for a dog and €100 for a cat.

This fee helps to cover some of the veterinary costs involved in getting the animal ready for its new home. The animals will have been neutered (unless too young), microchipped, vaccinated and will have been treated for worms and fleas.

In the case of dogs, a home check will be carried out before the final adoption take place and a collar tag and dog license need to be purchased by the new owner. The KWWSPCA also offers plenty of advice and as much information as it can about the animal concerned.

Loving homes

Bohdi and Speed are two KWWSPCA rescue animals who would love to find a new home soon.

Bohdi is a young, male lurcher who is looking for a quiet, rural home as he does not like the hustle and bustle of a town and needs space to stretch his long legs.

Speed would love a warm, friendly home where he would be allowed out and about, but could come home to a warm house and bed.

There are lots of other lovely potential pets in our care just waiting for loving homes.
