A woman was kicked in the face by her partner at a cinema, it was alleged at Naas District court.
Her partner is being prosecuted for assault on two occasions between December 2 and December 9.
On December 9 it’s claimed that she was assaulted at the cinema and the man is also facing an allegation of damaging a sandwich board display sign also on December 9.
Sgt Brian Jacob said it’s being claimed that the woman was kicked in the face, slapped in the face and had her clothing grabbed. He said there were at the cinema and were coming out when the incident happened.
He said there is likely to be CCTV footage of the incident. Seeking an adjournment, he also said that the case is not finalised.
He said there was swelling and bleeding to her face and there were marks on her legs.
He said it would also be claimed that on December 2 she sustained a bite to her lip and had a significant cut to her bottom lip.
The court proceedings were relayed to the defendant by an interpreter. The defendant is in custody and he appeared via videolink. He also lodged an application in the High Court to secure bail.
Commenting on pictures of the injured party, Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that she looked as if she had done ten rounds with Mike Tyson.
Defending solicitor David Gibbons said no statement is available and he added the woman does not intend to make a statement.
The case was adjourned to February 1 by Judge Zaidan with the defendant remanded in custody. He also appointed a Polish interpreter.
