This was the scene this afternoon when high winds pulled down a large tree down on the main R407 road from Clane to Kilcock.

The route, just past Painstown Cross, was immediately blocked and road users had to divert around the area.

Gardaí and Kildare County Council workers helped to clear the blockage.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow - Wind Warning for Kildare all day.

Forecasters said westerly winds will be very strong and gusty with particularly strong wind gusts especially around coasts and high ground in the northwest.

Power outages and travel disruption have been cited as possible impacts by the state weather services.

The Weather Warning is valid until 2am on Friday morning.
