Mick Mullen, Chairman of Kildare Co Board
At the March meeting of Kildare GAA Co. Board, club delegates voted in big numbers to retain the format of both the club football and hurling championships which has been in operation for the past three years (including 2025) for the following three years.
Following an extensive survey involving both clubs and the general GAA public in Kildare, two options were put to delegates at Tuesday evening's gathering at Cedral St Conleth's Park, Newbridge.
Option 1 was to retain the present format of 16 Senior teams; 16 Intermediate teams and 12 Junior teams in the various grades.
Option 2 was Senior 12; Intermediate 16: Junior 8 and Junior B 8.
In total there were 59 votes; 48 club delegates and 11 county board officials.
Chairman, Mick Mullen, then called for a show of hands.
The first vote was to retain the present format (Option 1) and it was quickly obvious it had the the necessary numbers ensuring that status quo will be retained for the next seasons (after 2025).
Chairman Mullen did say there may be some tweaks but nothing drastic.
