Cooke goal sees Kildare Development squad defeat Meath

Daniel Flynn on the mark for Kildare

Kildare Development 1-13

Meath Development 0-15

A late Fionn Cooke goal saw Kildare secure a one point victory over  Meath in this evening's (Monday 17 February) Development League game at Manguard Park, Hawkfield.
Cooke's goal and Tony  Archbold's point did push Kildare into a six point lead but two late two pointers from Meath's Luke Mitchell left Kildare hanging on.
Kildare came into the third round of this Development competition on the back of two losses to Dublin and Cavan and tonight's encounter was another chance to impress on home territory.
On a cold and windy evening it didn't make for pretty football.
The half time rain didn't do anything to improve  matters.
Meath did enjoy the the early advantage but hit two early wides before eventually opening the scoring.
Pat Martin opened the Kildare account after 3 minutes with a fine two-pointer from 50 metres.
Conor Harris and an Aaron Browne free stretched the Kildare advantage to two after eight minutes.
The crossfield breeze did make shooting difficult and while Meath  hit 6 first half wides  Kildare were more economical with their possession.
Kildare led by the minimum at the break 0-7 to 0-6 as Aaron Browne brought his first half total to four.He pace and positional sense was too much for the Meath defence at times.
The half-time break saw the welcome return of Daniel Flynn and Tony Archbold to the fold and they didn't disappoint.
Flynn helped himself to three points inside 15 minutes showing the power and pace we are accostumed to.
The Kildare goal arrived on 51 as Aaron Browne found Fionn Cooke who palmed to the net.
Tony Archbold showed great pace before  playing  a neat one two with Celbridge colleague Aaron Browne  before firing over.
Kildare were now six ahead but they failed to add to the tally over the last four minutes. Despite Mitchell's late response Kildare held on as the clock ran out on the visitors.
