Monasterevin Gospel Choir has grown from strength to strength with performances at several high profile events last year.

The AGM was held on January 26. In welcoming the large crowd, chairman, Jacqui Kennedy said the choir had flourished in its short period of existence. She congratulated the members on their commitment and dedication and looked forward to another year of singing at concerts, masses and weddings.

The hon secretary, Gaye Kehoe, outlined the two main highlights of the year - the invitation to sing live at a television mass in the RTE studio and the taking part in the Michael English concert in St. Peter and Paul’s Church. This concert was a complete sell-out with the proceeds going to the church building fund and the boy scouts. The choir also performed in Cork at which they were the top of the bill and received several standing ovations from the capacity audience. They have been invited back later this year. With fifty members at present the choir has a waiting list for membership and sing in St. Peter and Pauls Church on the last Sunday of each month at twelve o’clock mass. The following were elected for the coming year - President: Fr. Liam Merigan, Chairman: Jacqui Kennedy, Vice Chairman: John Kevins, Hon. Secretary: Gaye Kehoe, Asst. Secretary: Ann Brady, Hon. Treasurer: Sheila Healy, Asst. Treasuer: Mary Christie and PRO: Dick Somers. Committee: Susan Higgins, Aodh Smith, Jonathan Maher, Josephine Hall and Mary Donnelly.
