The count centre at Punchestown today
Fianna Fail could be on course to take two seats in Kildare North, with sitting TD James Lawless topping the poll.
This is based on early tally unofficial figures so the picture is not yet fully clear.
The announcement of the result of the first count is awaited.
However, it would amount to an impressive performance by Maynooth-based Naoise Ó Cearúil if he takes a seat alongside Lawless.
Kildare North will return 5 TDs to the Dáil, which is one more than last time.
Meanwhile there is speculation that Joe Neville would win a seat perhaps at the expense of his running mate and veteran TD Bernard Durkan.
Réada Cronin (Sinn Féin) is likely to hold her seat and Aidan Farrelly could retain the seat of retiring Social Democrat TD Catherine Murphy.
