Drops of Jupiter band, Train returned home with an album release concert outside Mad Dog in the Fog in San Francisco, which is owned by Kildare man, Cyril Hackett
Train, who became famous world wide with their track Drops of Jupiter, returned to the venue that gave it its first paid gig yesterday, August 28 with a special street concert outside the San Francisco venue.
They released their latest album with a special block party concert on Haight Street outside the Mad Dog in the Fog, which is owned by Kildare man, Cyril Hackett. Such was their love of the pub, that they used the name for their album title.
In announcing the news on July 30 on Facebook, the band said; “Mad Dog in the Fog is one of the first places in San Francisco where Train came together as a band. It was the first venue to pay us to play, and its owner, Cyril, has been one of our biggest champions from the beginning. So it only felt right to name this album in its honor. Shoutout to Austin Call for making our amazing album cover.”
The video, can be watched on you tube and features Cyril, who is originally from Rathangan.
The block party was covered by abc7news who interviewed Cyril at yesterday’s concert. He told them; "It was fantastic,. They got a great fan base here. For me it's really incredible, it's a real honor."
Cyril has been in America for decades but comes home on a regular basis. He is the son of the late Alo and Maureen Hackett and still has family living locally.
Drops of Jupiter is a Grammy award winning hit song, which was released in 2001 as the lead single from the band’s second album. The track catapulted the band to global superstardom.
