Deadline on stage

Following the critical and popular success of last year’s All-Ireland runner-up, “November” and their All-Ireland one-act finalist “The Man who Climbed Pecan Trees”, Prosperous Drama Society have once again qualified for the RTE All Ireland finals with this year’s three-act play for 2012, “Deadline!” This year there’s a certain added interest to proceedings with an RTE camera crew following the group rehearsals on the road. Before we go to the finals, we are bringing Deadline back to Prosperous Theatre for a three night run on 27th, 28th and 29th April. To book ring 085-1615590. Tickets €12.

Gum-shields: Amongst the highlights from the 2012 GAA Congress was the decision to make the wearing of mouth guards mandatory in football training sessions and games from 2014 for senior players and from January 1, 2013 for all grades up to and including minor level.

We recently organised for a dental technician, Kevin Shanahan from Leixlip Denture Services \ Pro Gum Custom Gum-shields to come to the clubhouse and professionally fit custom gum-shields.

About 20 juveniles\minors got them fitted and about 5 adults. From feedback, we believe that everyone was very happy with the service provided. If there are sufficient numbers, we will organise another fitting session with Kevin.

The cost of the gum-shield is €20 for a juvenile gum-shield and €35 for an adult gum-shield. This is a very good price. He makes them for dentists who I understand can charge €75 to €100 for the same gum-shield.

The price also compares favourably to the “off the shelf” self- fitted ones, which are uncomfortable and not as effective as the professional version. If there is anyone interested in getting a custom fitted gum-shield from Kevin Shanahan, please e-mail giving Name, Team, Mobile No. Many thanks to our Juvenile Chairman, Richard Walsh, who is behind this important initiative.

Club Table Quiz: Our monthly table quiz will take place in Larry Kehoe’s on Sat 28th April @ 9pm. An enjoyable night is guaranteed with quiz-master, Daragh Barrett. Please come along and support your club.

The club and especially the U12 team had a marvellous weekend, our U12 team were away to Sallins Celtic in a title decider and it was the home side who made the early pace leading 4-2 at half time, but whatever Ger said to his boys during the break certainly worked and they ran out 6-4 winners and became League Champions, well done to all the players, John and especially Ger for this wonderful achievement.
