'This is NOT a racetrack': Kildare gardaí hit out at excessive speeding in Castledermot

The highest speed detected on the road was 100 km / h, which is 40 km / h over the limit
Gardaí based in County Kildare have criticised motorists who were caught speeding on a road in Castledermot.
As explained by the official An Garda Síochána Kildare account on Facebook, the speeding incidents recently took place on National Slow Down Day.
The account explained that Naas Roads Policing Unit detected a number of vehicles travelling at excessive speed through the 60 kilometres per hour (km / h) zone in Castledermot.
It stressed: “This is NOT a motorway. This is NOT a racetrack; it is a built-up area where people live, walk, cycle and go about their daily lives.”
The account also pointed out that the highest speed detected on the day was 100 km / h, which is 40 km / h over the limit.
“That's not ‘a little over’, that's a conscious decision to drive at a dangerous speed,” it added. “At these speeds, if something goes wrong, the consequences can be devastating.”
The account continued: “Speed limits are there because lives depend on them.
“Slow down before someone pays the price.”
The account concluded the post by emphasising that ‘speed kills’.
