Gardaí arrest male on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Main Street of this Kildare town
The driver is due to appear before the Naas District Court at a later date
Gardaí arrested a male on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on the Main Street of one County Kildare town over the weekend.
According to a source with knowledge of the ‘very scary’ incident, the male was spotted slumped behind the wheel while on the Main Street of Newbridge on Saturday, June 13 last.
In addition, local gardaí who approached the motorist had to break open one of the vehicle’s windows in order to gain access to him.
They explained to the Leinster Leader: “He looked like he was passed out, and when the gardaí came over to him, he didn’t respond or wake up to them knocking and banging on the car window.”
When asked by the Leader about this incident, a garda spokesperson responded: “Gardaí whilst on patrol arrested a male aged in his 20s on suspicion of Driving Under The Influence of an Intoxicant In Newbridge, County Kildare on Saturday, June 13 at approximately 10:30pm.”
The spokesperson added that the male has since been charged and is due to appear before the Naas District Court at a later date.
