Driver arrested in Kildare after striking garda with their vehicle

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident
A driver has been arrested in County Kildare after they knocked down a garda with their vehicle.
The incident was highlighted by Garda John Joe O’Connell during a guest appearance on KFM on Wednesday, June 17 last.
He explained to host Tara Flanagan that the incident occurred on the evening of Friday, June 12 last on the M7 Southbound near Junction 9a in Naas.
According to Gda O’Connell, a vehicle was pulled over by gardaí in the region and they proceeded to speak to the motorist.
However, the motorist suddenly took off at speed, and as they fled the scene, they ended up striking one of the gardaí who pulled them over.
Gda O’Connell also revealed that the driver was later located and arrested, and their vehicle was eventually discovered in Ballymore Eustace.
He concluded by urging anyone with dashcam footage showing the vehicle, which he said was a white SEAT Leon car, to contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884 300.
When asked by the Leinster Leader about this incident, a garda spokesperson responded: “An individual was subsequently arrested in relation to this matter and is currently charged and before the Courts.
“The garda member was medically assessed at the time and returned home to continue his recovery.”
The spokesperson also emphasised that because the matter is now before the Courts, An Garda Síochána ‘is not in a position to comment further at this time’.
