A selection of Hugh Doran photographs, are currently on display in the ‘Ironing Room’ of the West Wing/Kitchen Wing at Castletown House. Admission to the exhibition is free and it is open to the public Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm until Sunday 3rd March 2013.

Hugh Doran (1926-2004) photographed many of the grandest of Ireland’s buildings, following a request from Desmond Guinness to photograph Irish country houses – specifically those with curved wings – for an Irish Georgian Society exhibition. He persuaded owners to let him photograph not only the stately exteriors but also the fully furnished interiors. His photographs now form part of the Irish Architectural Archive. The Hugh Doran Collection is considered to be one of the single most important acquisitions of photographs in the Archive’s thirty year-history.
