Kildare TD Deputy Fiona O’Loughlin has been named as Director of Elections for Fianna Fáil for the upcoming Divorce Referendum on May 24, 2019.
The Kildare South TD was previously appointed the Party’s Spokesperson on Equality, Immigration and Integration on her election to Dáil Éireann in 2016.
The Kildare South TD said that the party would be campaigning for a Yes vote.
“Over 24 years ago, when divorce was finally permitted under the constitution, Ireland was a very different country,” she said.
”Much has changed since then, and it’s time that the criteria for obtaining a divorce are decided by the Oireachtas. This referendum needs to address this subject reasonably and with logic. We must be mindful of the present difficulties and constraints on couples seeking a divorce. We need to show these people compassion and understanding.”
Deputy O’Loughlin added, “Fianna Fáil will be strongly campaigning for a Yes vote, and is urging its members and supporters up and down the country to Vote Yes on May 24.”
