16 year-old Kildare boxer wins gold in Russia

Sixteen-year-old Lauren Dempsey from Suncroft and who boxes with Ryston Club in Newbridge, has won gold today in the European Junior Championships in Russia. 

She made it through to the semi finals of the European Championships currently being held in Russia on Friday. She won the Quarter-finals in the European Championships beating a girl from the Holland 5-0 by unanimous decision.

Lauren is no stranger to awards and her sporting achievements to date include two Golden girls championships medals.

Other Kildare winners in the Championships include Michael Donohue of St Michaels in Athy won bronze as did Kaitlyn Doyle of St Brigids, Kildare town. 

Michael lost to Mikhail Grigorian (Russia) while Kaitlyn Doyle lost to Margarita Zueva (Russia) in the semi-finals yesterday.
