Public march in Kildare town for swimming pool

Public meeting was held recently to raise interest in a swimming pool for Kildare town

A march concerning the Kildare town swimming pool fund will be held on Saturday, March 24, at 3pm.

It will start out at the crossroads at the Harp bar near Tesco and proceed up to Claregate St to the Square.

The rally is to raise awareness and support from the people in the town for a new swimming pool using historic funds that were raised for the pool over forty years ago.

According to organiser, Declan Crowe, the money raised decades ago in the town to help construct a swimming pool belongs to the community, and it should be used for what it was intended.

The current trustees for the Kildare town swimming pool fund are Pat Mahon and Charlie Bergin.

A recent statement from the trustees stated that they are actively engaging with the Charities Regulator with a view to progressing matters. The Leader understands there is up to €140,000 left in the fund to be used in the future for the good of the community.

A follow up public meeting will be held on Thursday 29.
