Man drove car into shop front in Athy

A man who drove his car into a shop front in Athy while under the influence of alcohol was fined €400 and disqualifed from driving for two years.

Keith Doherty with an address listed as 31 Branswood Athy at the time and now of 35 Seskin View Avenue, Old Bawn, Tallaght came to the attention of gardai on June 4, 2016 after he drove his car into a shop at 10.30pm.

Gardai responded to a call from the public after the car in which he was driving collided into the shop at William St.

The court heard that the defendant, who caused €1,000 worth of damage to the shop front, admitted he had been drinking at the time to the gardai.

The reading showed that the defendant was at the lower end of the drink driving limit.

His car was a write off afterwards. He had no previous convictions and his solicitor said that he had never been in any kind of trouble before. He drives for a living and was given six months to pay the fine.
